Returning to the blogging world!

So I have been SUPER slack when it comes to this blog, which is sad because you should never treat one of your babies like that. (Please don't call BPS--blog protective services). I promise to do better, pinky promise! Friday March 1st I will launch redesigned, renewed, refreshed and full of new content! For now I'll leave you with an inspirational message to get ya goin!

"Belief is the catalyst for action; You do what you do based on how you believe."
- Roderick Hennings

John 14:12-14 KJV
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ...ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Col 3:17 KJV
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by.

Testimony time!!!
When I first had Breezy I knew what kind of mother I wanted to be. So because I knew what I wanted to be I thought piece of cake, right? WRONG! I knew what I wanted to be, but I didn't believe that I could be! I have dealt with confidence and self doubt ALL my life! And as time went on and the relationship with her dad failed when she was only 2, I really started to doubt that I could EVER make it as a single mother, let alone a good mom! Everything around me screamed at me FAIL FAIL FAIL! Lost my job, moved in my parents basement, debt sky high, no child support or parenting help from him, I really did not think I was going to make it! But then I started to lean more on Jesus and what His word said. Once I lined up what I was reading and hearing with my actions and the words I was speaking, EVERYTHING started to smooth out. God began to restore everything I thought I would never have again or be able to give/show Breezy and is still working in our lives today.

If we say we believe and we love the Lord and/or one another, why don't our actions line up? Why do we begin tasks with a defeatist attitude already on our minds? At the end of the day (and the beginning) He's already declared that if we were to really lean on Him and not on our own, He will do whatever we ask in His name---no experience, education, no other person, qualification or certification required! Thank God for that!
So today I speak to whomever is dealing with fear of failure, boldness, self-doubt and acceptance: Believe WHOLLY and He will give you everything you need to get the job done, and when He does, DO IT!

An Apology (Among Other Things...)

So apparently I am not so good at this whole blogging thing, so my apologies as you bare with me and I learn to juggle all my dabblings. (is that even a word? mmmidunno) So currently I am caught up in Breezy's mermaid birthday and about six other projects. One of my faves happens to be the Miami Dress for one of my coworkers Memorial Day trip to said city (catch the jealous tone, please.)

She emailed me these pics

And here's my progress without sleeves and hems, YET!

(Pardon Breezy's Birthday banner, we tend to put decorations EVERYWHERE)

I'm absolutely thrilled at how it's coming out so far (yes, I'm patting myself on the back) and thankful that I won't be ruining her vacation!
More to come soon...

The Blazer

So here are the pics as promised! I apologize in advance for the Iphone pics, I believe I'll soon be blessed with a high-quality Canon!

If you notice, I substituted pieces of lace for the faux zippers over the pockets and added a lil pizazz on the inside.

It's also fully lined (so luxurious to me). Now I have to admit that as a beginner, this was a pretty difficult project, but my key to success was to READ READ READ. I must have read the instructions so much I have them committed to memory! I also checked out books from my local library (2 at a time) on sewing basics and garment construction; these definitely helped when I ran into a term or technique that I wasn't familiar with (which is mostly ALL of them----layering a hem?? what???) So my suggestion to all aspiring and beginners is to READ. Read the pattern for instruction as well as interpretation and accuracy. My pastor (Roderick L. Hennings) told us that it takes 10,000 hours to master what you do, and I believe in that, so be not disheartened when a hemline is crooked and you have to pop all the stitches and redo it, or when you look up and realize it's 2:16 in the morning and you have to be to work at 8:30 am, count it all as your mastery experience :-) and most importantly, enjoy your creations, because they're yours and no one can take away from that!

Proverbs 12:12
The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

Moving right along...

Preliminary sidebar: I am going to be making tons of skirts. I swoon over maxi skirts in jersey knit and chiffon with pleating. (Maybe an Etsy product, hmmmmm....). Which brings us to my secondary sidebar: My initial idea for my Etsy shop was little girls dresses, but I've been carefully reconsidering and have yet to make a final decision. Alright, now that that's all out of my head,

HEY YA'LL!
I'm glad to report that the Spring Affair outfit was a smash and it felt GREAT to be wearing something I had a vision for and created. Pics coming with a later post. Alright now on to Breezy's party---Mermaid Mania! She has a mermaid obsession and this party will definitely show it! From the mermaid tail favor bags (sewn by mom of course) to the sea creature shaped foods and treats, I've got my work cut out! Jehovah Jireh as my provider and Jehovah Rammah, being ever-present, I will be able to get all of it done in time!

Wednesday night and the Spring Affair project is looking quit scarce, and by that I of course mean only 6 of the 30 pieces are assembled....and I haven't even started the shorts! Maybe a mild case of sewing anxiety, but I'm declaring tonight that the spirit of lax has departed from me and I will get this outfit in tip top shape before saturday! I love getting fed a word that I can apply to everyday life! Thank you Pastor Hennings! On another note, Breezy's birthday is fast-approaching, so I will soon be saturating you with my splendiferous party plans (hint: there will be tons of DIY and seas of blue). Have an awesome evening kiddos!

Friday the 13th (insert spooky music here)

Not that I'm the least bit supersticious, but a 7:15 staff meeting is quite harsh for a Friday morning.

Just putting that out there...... (-_-)

Current Project : Spring Affair Outfit

So for you guys, this will be my first sewing project that will materialize magically (snicker) in front of your eyes, but will be the fifth and sixth garments I've constructed. In my entire lifetime. If all goes well, I plan to wear this to a local high-profile fashion show to support my cousin who is one of the featured designers, at only 17 years old! (God-given gifts are not relative to age, race or creed!) So without further ado, here is what will be the Spring Affair

Tailored wide lapel blazer will be in a mauve color cotton blend with black lace trim. If you look closely, the pockets have faux zippers on them which I will be doing without. I'm going for a softer, feminine look and that element would ruin it for me.
Paired with
in a multi floral print on cotton with browns, reds, lavender and of course pinks!
The inspiration behind the jacket is a lovely little number my cousin designed and then wore on Easter sunday, so I found it only fitting to honor her on her big day. The decision to pair them with shorts was the on-a-whim part, but I'm going with it.
Stay tuned for a sneak peek pic of the fabric and a poll on shoes and jewelry!
I can't wait to see my vision come together!

As Breezy says,
Deuces!!
